William Land Regional Park

Are you looking for a laid-back date plan in Sacramento? Or, alternatively, do you have a pup who is dog-friendly and loves to run and play in the shade? This park is one of my favorites, because it’s great for all kinds of pups, people, and activities!

William Land Regional Park, or more colloquially by locals, “William Land Park,” is one of the best (in my opinion) parks in Sacramento. Whether you’re looking for a nice “walk in the park” with your partner or hoping to bring your dog out for some frisbee, it’s a great, expansive space to enjoy the outdoors in the area.

Situated in between the Sacramento Zoo and Fairytale Town, this family-friendly park is as large as it is versatile. Over 207 acres in size, it features an Amphitheater with occasional theatric shows, a golf-course, a few small lakes, a rock garden, and many picnic benches scattered throughout for when you want a nice bite to eat outside. The WPA Rock Garden makes for a beautiful stroll year-round- I highly recommend visiting this unique part of the park with your significant other for a quiet sunset date!

While not specifically a dog park, William Land Regional Park is also an especially good fit for dog owners. The park is spacious with lots of shade from trees, and its “Duck Lake” in particular makes a great sideshow attraction. Because it is fence-free and a popular location with local dog owners (for all the reasons I mentioned above!), it is not ideal for free roaming or letting dogs off-leash. That being said, you can still have so much on-leash fun in this spot.

For those of you who like to take Instagram-worthy photos of your pet, this park is a great option too. I utilize the varied backgrounds of the lakes, the lotus blooms in the summer, the rock garden, the trees, and the stone structures scattered throughout for sweet portraits of pets and their people.

So, that’s “what’s what” with William Land Regional Park! I love this (not-so) little park in Sacramento, and I think you will too. So get your pet’s leash and go give it a try!

If you’re looking for more recommendations on local dog parks, stay tuned - I’ll be making a round-up of all the best places to bring your pup soon! As soon as it’s done, I’ll share a link here with you all so you can check it out.

In the meantime, you can ask local pet-owners for their favorite spots and activities in my Pets of Sacramento & Napa Facebook community.
